Hall of Fame
Foti started his long association with SUNY Oneonta in 1953 as a freshman and completed his Bachelor’s degree in 1957 in secondary Social Science. In 1960, he received his Master’s from Oneonta in Early Secondary Social Science. He has an M.Ed. from Siena and a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from SUNY Albany.
Foti is being honored this year as a Hall of Fame inductee due to his long-time support of Oneonta athletics, which spans 50 years. During his association he worked closely with student athletes and coaches, concentrating on the student’s academic needs. During his tenure as an academic administrator, he actively supported both the physical education and athletic programs. A lot of what Foti did was “behind the scenes” as a counselor and mentor. Vince was recognized at the Athletic Association annual awards ceremony numerous times by receiving the Coaches’ Appreciation Award.
Foti’s initial position at the college was as Associate Dean of Students, a position he held until 1972. During the next 21 years, until his retirement in 1993, he served the college in various administrative capacities, retiring as Dean of Behavioral and Applied Science. In retirement he still works part-time for the admissions office trying to recruit talented students to the college.
As an original member of the Hall of Fame Committee, Foti has been an integral member of the veterans committee, which researches credentials of old timers who were outstanding student athletes from the early years of Oneonta State athletics. He can always be seen at athletic events and, to this day, still attends many home and away contests.
As a part time admissions recruiter Foti has given special attention to prospective student athletes in helping them to choose Oneonta. He has been a behind the scenes individual who suggests, fundraises and works on improvements to the facilities, image and tradition of Oneonta State athletics.
During his tenure with the college Foti served as President of Oneonta State Alumni Association in 1969 and was Chair of SUNY Oneonta Intercollegiate Athletics Board, 1987-89 while serving on the IAB for eight years.
