Flewelling is the most successful men's basketball and softball coach in the history of the College. During his tenure at Oneonta his teams amassed over 500 combined wins while making numerous postseason appearances including the ECAC and NCAA tournaments. His 1976-77 basketball team played for a national championship while his 2001 softball team won a
school-record 38 games and came within one game of earning a trip to the College World Series. His players earned honors at every level and his teams were consistently ranked amongst the national statistics leaders for both sports.
Labeled as an “innovator” by his coaching peers he was the first coach to offer basketball camps for post players in the country in 1977. His Big Guy & Tall Gal camps just celebrated 25 years as one of the premier basketball camps in New York State.
Flewelling retired in 2001 after more than 30 years of service to Oneonta. He was a teacher, mentor and coach of many of the greatest athletes to put on the Red Dragon uniform.
