Hall of Fame
The 1966-67 men’s swimming & diving team put together a 10-1 dual-meet record with its only setback coming at the hands of Plattsburgh 48-47. Not to be denied, this squad avenged its only loss by dominating the competition at the SUNYAC championship meet later in the season, scoring 84 points to out distance second place Brockport by 35 points.
The team was comprised of SUNYAC champions and All-Americans and one national champion, Malcolm “Ted” Bears, already in the SUNY Oneonta athletics Hall of Fame. Bears’ classmate and co-captain, Hall of Famer, Ron Magin, led this formidable squad to pool, school and conference records throughout the season.
When it was all tolled, the 1966-67 swimming & diving team had one National Champion, four individual All-Americans and one All-American relay. The squad was also part of a consecutive dual-meet winning streak that had them ranked third in the country in the college division.
