Blackmon was a standout player and 1,000-point scorer for the basketball program in the early 70's.  He was a three-time All-SUNYAC selection and was the SUNYAC Player of the Year at the completion of the 1975-76 season.  That year he was also selected by the National Association of Basketball Coaches as an All-American and was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers.

"He was the Pied Piper of Oneonta State," says former coach Don Flewelling.  "When he was playing, everyone wanted to see."

After playing professionally with the Long Island Ducks and in South America, Blackmon's rights
were sold to the Boston Celtics.  The Celtics then wanted to have him play in France, but Blackmon wanted to start a new life as a businessman.

Blackmon and his family settled in Kingston, N.Y. where he started an electronics corporation.  He spent time as a consultant for the federal government tutoring young minorities who wanted to start their own businesses and, at the time of his sudden death in 1991, was on a business trip for the Johnson Control Company of Milwaukee.
