Speranzi was born in Oneonta and has spent his entire life impacting the community.  He has spent 30 years as the assistant coach for the softball program, which has enjoyed a rich winning tradition during his tenure.  After spending one year as the interim head coach back in 1990, Speranzi remained a fixture in the dugout and as the first base coach for the Red Dragons where he has had a tremendous impact on the lives of student athletes at Oneonta.

Speranzi is amongst the elite assistants in Division III being a part of more than 600 wins during his 30 seasons including a 38-10 mark in 2001.  Speranzi has been a part of the program’s four SUNYAC championship and four NCAA tournament teams.  At the conclusion of the 2001 season, the coaching staff was honored with their selection as the NFCA Northeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

Speranzi spent nearly 35 years as the quartermaster for the New York State Police barracks in Sidney, N.Y.  He volunteered his time at the Oneonta Boys and Girls club all of his adult life and started the 6th Ward All-County Softball School which is still going strong since it began in 1990.  The school has impacted hundreds of players from the region who have gone on to successful playing careers at the high school and collegiate level.

In 2006, the SUNY Oneonta athletics department recognized Speranzi’s service with the Ross Cordell Award.  The athletics department honored him again in 2016 with the Assistant Coach of the Year Award.
