Hall of Fame
The 1976-77 men’s basketball team’s claim to fame was playing for the 1977 Div. III national championship at Augustana College in Illinois. The team finished the year with an overall record of 22-5 while claiming the East Region championship.
The Red Dragons run to the title game began in Albany where they defeated Stony Brook 71-65 and perennial SUNY powerhouse Albany State 47-46 to advance to the tournament quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals they faced another region power in Boston State in their gym and came away a 72-61 victory to punch its ticket to the final four. Oneonta defeated Hamline University 61-56 to advance to the championship game where they fell to Wittenberg 79-66.
