Naito dominated in the pool during the early 1970's.  He earned All-America honors all four years after competing as a national finalist during that time in the breaststroke event.  As a senior in 1973 he was crowned National Champion in the 100-yard breaststroke.  Naito was undefeated as a SUNYAC swimmer for his entire collegiate career and was the conference MVP in 1973.  He led his team to two undefeated seasons, was team captain two years and, as a senior, was selected as the Outstanding Male Athlete at Oneonta.

After graduation from Oneonta, Naito has spent most of his professional life in his native country of Japan, but did complete a master's degree in physiology of exercise from Indiana University.  In Japan he has been a consultant to companies that build aquatics complexes, served as a college professor and was the Japanese Olympic Swimming and Diving coach.  At the present, Naito has used patents granted to him by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for water purification devices into Aqua Quest in the U.S. and Water Tech in Japan, two companies that he is the President of that manufacture and sell these devices all over the world.
