A native of Oneonta, Segal was a four-year player for the tennis team playing in the top-6 during his career.  He compiled an overall record 93 wins against only 33 losses in his four years earning Co-MVP honors in 1992-93.  During his junior and senior years, he served as team Co-Captain.  During his four years, the men’s tennis team won better than 80 percent of its matches.

After graduating from Oneonta with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and International Studies, Segal has enjoyed over 20 years working in the tennis industry.  After graduating in 1995, he entered the field full-time, first as a tennis teaching professional in Westchester County, NY, and since 1997, as an employee of the United States Tennis Association (USTA)—national governing body for the sport--and regional affiliate USTA Eastern Section.  Segal has built his passion for tennis into an established career in the industry.

Beginning in 2003, Segal shifted to the USTA national headquarters, joining the professional tennis operations group in support of the US Open Tennis Championships -- the highest-attended annual sporting event in the world -- and in 2004, he was a member of the team that launched the US Open Series (linking hard court WTA and ATP World Tour tournaments in North America to the US Open and creating a cohesive summer tennis “Open Season”).

In 2011, Segal transitioned to the USTA business operations group and, specifically, formed the broadcasting department where he has successfully managed the broadcast business since that time.  Segal was a member of the team responsible for landmark media rights agreements with ESPN, Eurosport and other global broadcast outlets -- through which the US Open is seen in more than 200 countries and by hundreds of millions of viewers each year.
