Magin was another of the standout swimmers that Oneonta had in its program during the late 60's and early 70's when the Red Dragons were a perennial contender in the region. During his four-year career he was part of three SUNYAC championship teams while racing to individual conference titles in three events. His crowning achievement came in 1970 at the NCAA championships where he finished ninth in the 200-yard backstroke to earn All-American honors.
His post-graduate life included 33 years as a third grade teacher in the Canandaigua School District where he retired from in 2004. He was actively involved in coaching swimming while being a certified swimming official in New York State.
After a quadruple bypass surgery in the spring of 2004, Magin has retired to Fort Myers, Fla. where he has become a top Masters swimmer. This past summer he competed at the Summer National Senior Games in Pittsburgh where he registered five, top-eight finishes in individual events.
