Lynch spent 29 years as a member of the physical education faculty while serving as a coach for various sports from 1967-96.  Lynch was the top assistant for the men’s soccer program under Hall of Fame coach, Garth Stam, for 25 years before being the head coach for the 1993 and 1994 seasons.  He was the first men’s lacrosse coach where he held the position from 1980 until the spring of 1993.

Lynch’s greatest success as a coach came as the diving coach where he guided two divers to national championships.  Oneonta State Hall of Famers, Dave Wheeler and Jackie Walsh captured national titles in 1978 and 1977 respectively.  In total, he coached three divers that earned All-American honors 10 times during the years from 1972-1978.

Lynch received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Cortland in 1957 and 1959 respectively.  A native of Binghamton, he spent the first 10 years post-graduation as a physical education teacher in Northport and Spackenkill school districts prior to his arrival in Oneonta.
