Brocks left his mark in the Oneonta State record books as a high jumper from 1972 to 1976. As a sophomore he won the SUNYAC title in the high jump and qualified for the nationals for the first of two times. During his junior year in 1975 he was an All-American after finishing as the runner up in the high jump. He actually was tied with another jumper with the same height cleared, but lost according to the fewer attempts rule in the event. That same year he held the national high jump record, which makes him one of only a couple of Oneonta State athletes to hold a national record in any sport.
After receiving his bachelor's degree in philosophy from Oneonta he completed a law degree from Cornell in 1980. He currently is a partner in the Law Firm of Read and Laniado in Albany where he has worked since 1983.
