Monfett was a three-sport athlete in the early years of growth in the women’s athletics programs at Oneonta. She was a member of the volleyball team for four years and was a member of the basketball and softball teams for three years.
Monfett’s athletic highlights came as a member of the volleyball team. During her four-year career, the Red Dragons qualified for three consecutive AIAW national tournaments from 1972-74. The 1973 squad captured the EAIAW championship while the 1974 team was runner-up. As a senior, Monfett was selected as the outstanding senior athlete by the College’s Women’s Athletics Association.
Monfett majored in both biology and chemistry and graduated in 1974 from Oneonta. She received a Master’s Degree in continuing education in 1978 from Stony Brook University. She spent her entire professional career as a secondary science teacher for Sachem High School until her retirement in 2008.
