Burr graduated from Oneonta in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. Two years later he earned a Master’s degree from SUNY Albany.

Burr began his professional career at Oneonta in 1963 when he was appointed to the position of Instructor II of Guidance and was assigned to the admissions office. He was promoted in 1964 to Admissions Counselor, promoted again in 1969 to Assistant Director of Admissions and finally promoted to Director of Admissions in 1976. He retired from Oneonta in 1995 after loyally serving the College for more than 32 years.

Burr was a founding member of the SUNY Admissions professional organization, where he later served as a member of the executive committee. He currently serves on the College’s Athletics Hall of Fame Committee, which he has done since its inception.

Throughout his tenure, Burr has always had a special interest in the athletics program at Oneonta. He would routinely accompany coaches on recruiting visits and would always give freely of his time to assist and mentor students.

Burr, along with his wife Barbara, formed the infamous “Hoop Group” who attended home and away games and organized halftime gatherings. He was recognized in 1992 by the athletics department as its recipient of the coveted Ross Cordell Award, which is given to individuals who have gone above and beyond normal support for Oneonta State athletics. In retirement, he and his wife continue to attend as many athletic contests, home and away, as they can.
