Ingersoll spent 20 years at SUNY Oneonta primarily in the role of University Police Chief.  After receiving his Doctorate, he added Associate Vice President for Student Development to his title and given the responsibility of overseeing the athletics department.  During the 2006-07 year, he served as the Interim Director of Athletics.
 
Ingersoll graduated from Ithaca College in 1974 with a degree in Psychology.  After receiving a pair of master’s degrees from Elmira in 1977 and SUNY Albany in 2000, he completed his PhD in Higher Education Administration from Albany in 2002.
 
Ingersoll came to Oneonta as the University Police Chief in 1992 and spent 20 years on the campus until his retirement in 2012.  In 2002, Ingersoll became the Associate Vice President for Student Development with oversight of the athletics department.  In addition to serving as the Interim Director of Athletics in 2006-07, Ingersoll served on the Hall of Fame Committee for 10 years and the Intercollegiate Athletics Board for 17 years.  During his tenure overseeing athletics, he was involved in the reclassification of the men’s soccer program from NCAA Div. I to Div. III in 2006.  Since that time, the men have regained its national prominence making three national tournament semifinal appearances (2011, 2015, 2015).
 
Ingersoll received a commendation for Valor from Cornell in 1982 and the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service in 2012.  He also was the recipient of SUNY State Police Association Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.
