Hall of Fame
Cannistra was a standout basketball player for the Red Dragons from 1965-1968. He played two full seasons at Oneonta (1965-66 & 1967-68) and was team captain during his final two seasons. An injury forced him to miss his final season in 1968-69.
In his first season with Oneonta he was fourth on the team in scoring with 204 points and third in rebounding with 127 boards. During the 1967-68 season he led the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging a double double at 16.1 points per game and 12.2 rebounds per game. At the conclusion of that season Cannistra was selected as an All-SUNYAC and All-Region player.
Cannistra has spent his professional life as a teacher and coach in the Cooperstown School District where he earned honors for his teaching and coaching at all levels. Under his direction, his basketball teams have won multiple league and sectional titles. He is currently in his 32nd year serving the Cooperstown School District.
