Miller was a two-year standout for Oneonta in the sports of cross country, track & field and swimming & diving after transferring from Adirondack College. Miller’s greatest accomplishments as an athlete came as a diver for Oneonta State. After never having dove prior to attending Oneonta, in two years he earned All-America honors when he placed ninth at the Small College championships in 1972. That year he was also the New York State diving champion while setting a record with his score at the meet. Miller earned All-State honors during both season as a diver for the Red Dragons.
In cross country, Miller was a co-captain for the team during the 1971 season and helped lead the Red Dragons to a 10-4 record in dual meets.

In track & field, Miller was a two-time All-State performer in the pole vault setting a school record of 13 feet while placing fourth at the New York State meet in 1971.
Miller’s post-collegiate highlights include riding his bicycle across the United States, covering 2,800 miles in 28 days. He has sailed 3,000 miles across the North Atlantic Ocean in the winter on a boat that ended up finishing second in the Whitbread Around the World Race. He also climbed 90 peaks in 90 days in the Canadian Rockies and is one of only a few
people in the world to be able to do 10, one finger, one arm pull-ups.
