Kennedy, a native of Poughkeepsie, made her splash in the pool as one of the top swimmers of the mid 1960’s. During her career, she set numerous individual pool and school records. Kennedy burst onto the collegiate swimming scene in 1965 and, during her very first season with the Red Dragons, raised eyebrows.

During her first season with Oneonta, Kennedy was undefeated in all her individual events setting records along the way. During her first season, she set a national record in the 25-yard freestyle event. Kennedy led the women throughout the season leading them into the New York State Swimming & Diving Championships. In the meet, she won a pair of individual events to lead the Red Dragons to the overall team title. Kennedy’s performance at the championships earned her the Most Outstanding Swimmer of the meet.

Since her graduation from Oneonta with a degree in Liberal Arts and Literature, Kennedy has a long and distinguished career in law and higher education. She earned her Juris Doctor from the Syracuse University College of Law in 1981 before continuing to earn a pair of certificates in Advanced Studies (2001) and University Teaching (2007). Kennedy earned her terminal PhD degree in 2007 in Mass Communication from the Newhouse School of Public Communication.

Kennedy began her professional career working in various Law Firms and offices in different areas of New York State from 1975-1998. Her final stop was in the Office of the City Attorney in Ithaca, N.Y. where she was the Assistant City Attorney from 1990-98.

Kennedy then focused her attention on higher education where she had started during her time as an Adjunct Instructor at Syracuse during the 1980-81 academic year. She spent time time at Ithaca, Cornell and Syracuse before landing at Clarion University in 2001. After spending five years at Clarion, Kennedy finished out her career at East Stroudsburg University spending 13 years until her retirement in 2017 earning Faculty Emerita status.

Kennedy is a published writer and has presented numerous papers on topics dealing with law and communications. She has participated in various research projects throughout her career, has given service to each institution and community she has lived, and continues to serve as a reviewer for journals and conferences as well as text for publishers and testing services.
