Kapogiannis was a four-year standout soccer player for Oneonta from 1985-88. During his playing career, the Red Dragons compiled an overall record of 49-27-3 including a record of 20-1-1 in the SUNYAC. He helped lead Oneonta to a SUNYAC tournament championship in 1985. He was also instrumental in helping the Red Dragons to two undefeated seasons in conference play in 1986 (6-0) and 1988 (5-0). In 1988, he was chosen as the SUNYAC Player of the Year.
Kapogiannis started 72 of 75 games played in a Red Dragon uniform. He registered 22 goals and 26 assists for 70 career points. His 26 assists is still the all-time mark nearly a quarter century later. He was a three-time All-Conference and two-time All-State selection and served as team captain in 1988. He played in the Senior All-Star game and was drafted by the Baltimore Blast of the MISL.
Kapogiannis earned a degree in Business Economics for Oneonta and is currently the Director, Product Marketing & Development at The Depository Trust & Clearing Company (DTCC). He is responsible for marketing and developing enhancements to NSCC’s Equity Trade Capture system and managing all relationships with Exchanges and other liquidity providers. Kapogiannis managed the complete redesign of NSCC’s equity trade capture process, which includes standard real-time FIX messaging capabilities.
Still active in adult soccer, Kapogiannis’ Germania Soccer Club won the NYS state championship in the over 30 Division in 2011 and 2012 while also capturing the last five East Hudson League titles.
