Kopp was a four-year starting player on the pitch for Oneonta from 1984-87. During his four years the team compiled an overall record of 51-24-4 while capturing one SUNYAC title and playing in the SUNYAC tournament three times. In 1984 he was a starting freshman on the team that captured the program's first Mayor's Cup Championship. Kopp was twice selected as an honorable mention All-Conference player while being an All-Area player in 1987.  In 1986, he finished in the top-50 in NCAA Division I in scoring and, in the last 40 years, only one player has amassed more total career points.

Kopp played professionally and spent two seasons with the Knoxville Impact of the USISL reaching the championship tournament in 1995.  From 2015-17, he was the Varsity Girl’s Coach at Schuylerville High School where he led them to a conference championship and a state ranking.

A two-time Oneonta Scholar Athlete, the Business Economics major was the recipient of the Dr. Sam Molnar Award, which is the highest individual honor for a male student athlete in the SUNYAC.  In 1999, Kopp co-founded and served as the COO of Electronic Data Resources, which processed electronic payments for small to medium sized businesses throughout the country.  Kopp sold the business in 2005 and stayed with the company until his retirement in 2008.

Kopp was honored in 2015 by the SUNY Oneonta Alumni Association with his selection as an Alumni of Distinction.
