Ferguson-Nichols made her mark at Oneonta in the sport of basketball. She was a leader for the women’s program that established a new era in women’s basketball that is still flourishing today. Along with her teammates, one of which joins her as a 2006 inductee, the Red Dragons reached the top of the SUNYAC and earned the program’s first NCAA tournament berth in 1998. That year the squad accomplished a conference first by going a perfect 18-0 in SUNYAC play and Ferguson was chosen as the conference Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player of the conference tournament.
Ferguson, who was the first woman to score 1,000 points, is the current leader in career points (1,449) steals (422) and assists (583). She is also the ninth all-time in scoring in the SUNYAC while being the all-time leader in assists and second in steals in the conference.
After graduating from Oneonta with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics, Ferguson has spent her post-graduate years in sales and as an admissions counselor in the High School setting. She has also spent time coaching high school aged girls in the sport of basketball.
