Ryder was one of the early greats in the history of the men’s lacrosse program, which had its first varsity season in 1980.  Ryder became a three-year starter for the Red Dragons from 1985-87 and led them offensively during those three seasons.  He finished his career with 96 goals including 44 during his senior year where he was team captain and an All-SUNYAC selection.
 
Ryder’s highlight came in a game on Mar. 28, 1987 when he scored a then NCAA Division III record 13 goals versus FDU, which stood until 2001 when it was equaled.
 
Ryder graduated in 1987 with a degree in Political Science and then worked to receive a Master of Science in Sport Management from Adelphi (1991) and a Master of Science in Special Education from Dowling (2000) before receiving a Graduate Certificate from St. Rose in Educational Administration in 2007.  He is currently a High School Social Studies teacher and coach.
 
Ryder has spent time as an Assistant men’s basketball coach at Oneonta, Adelphi and Cornell (1986-1991) and was the Head Women’s coach at Mount Saint Vincent from 2005-07, where he was the conference Coach of the Year twice.  He is a founding member of the International Sport and Culture Association and was the first Executive Director of the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
