Box Score 4 The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team traveled south for its annual spring break trip to Hilton Head, SC. The Red Dragons competed in four matches and came away with one victory against stiff competition.
Oneonta (9-8) opened its trip last Tuesday with a close 5-4 loss to Virginia Wesleyan University. Wins in the match came at third doubles and first, fourth and sixth singles. The wins at third doubles and sixth singles came by default while sophomore
Brynn Sussman (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) and freshman
Michelle Spencer (Homer/Homer) were victorious at first and fourth singles respectively.
In their second match, the Red Dragons were defeated by the University of Chicago, 8-1. The lone win for Oneonta came at second singles by Sussman.
Oneonta then defeated Concordia University of Wisconsin, 8-1. Senior
Danielle Browarski (Colonie/Colonie), Sussman, and juniors
Emily Maggiore (Binghamton/Binghamton) and Collette Lankowicz all were double winners. Spencer and
Riane Reithel (Penfield/Webster Schroeder) won at fifth and sixth singles respectively.
Browarski and Sussman won at first and second singles respectively and teamed up to win at first doubles. Maggiore won at third singles and second doubles with Lankowicz while Lankowicz won at fourth singles.
In the final match of the trip, Oneonta lost to St. Olaf 7-2. Oneonta's two wins came by Sussman at second singles and Maggiore/Lankowicz at second doubles.
The women will continue its spring schedule this weekend with matches at Wheaton College on Friday and versus Hunter College on Saturday. Saturday's match will be played at the U.S. Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
