ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta fall sports are halfway through their season with field hockey and both soccer teams starting SUNYAC play this week. A few members from women's tennis will compete at the ITA Regional championships, and men's tennis will have a pair of matches at the Garnet Cup in Union. Volleyball has the weekend off after a convincing win over Hartwick, while the Red Dragon Cross Country programs return to action at Fredonia.

Women's Soccer
The SUNY Oneonta Women's Soccer team finished up their non-conference schedule with a 1-0 win over Eastern Connecticut State University. The Red Dragons are set to face SUNY Canton at home on Wednesday followed by SUNY Plattsburgh at home on Saturday. Oneonta is entering the week with a 3-3-1 record and two straight shutout victories. The Roos are currently 1-6-2 and coming off of their first win of the season against VTSU Lyndon. The Red Dragons own the series versus Canton at 2-0-0 with a 9-1 win last year. The match is set for 4:00pm on Wednesday, September 30, on Red Dragon Field.

On Saturday, Oct 3, the Red Dragons will play host to the 3-2-3 Plattsburgh Cardinals. Oneonta is 23-17-5 against the Cardinals all time, although Plattsburgh got the best of them last year 2-0. Game time is set for 3:00pm at Red Dragon Field

Players to Watch – Senior Brenna Mast (Croghan, NY/Beaver River) was the goal scorer versus ECSU last week and junior Emily Hardison (Coram, NY/Longwood) has put up two clean sheets in a row.

Men's Soccer
The SUNY Oneonta Men's Soccer team will spend their week on the road. The Red Dragons haven't played a home game since September 6. In their first matchup the Red Dragons will take on the Roos from SUNY Canton. Oneonta enters the match at 6-0-1, while Canton currently holds a record of 1-7-2. The Roos tied Cobleskill in their most recent match, while Oneonta's last match was canceled due to the Nor'easter. Oneonta holds the series 2-0-0 with a 2-0 win coming against the Roos last year. Game time is set for Wednesday, September 30, at 6:00 pm.

On Saturday, October 3, the Red Dragons will travel to Plattsburgh, who also had their last game canceled due to the Nor'easter. The Cardinals are currently 3-3-2. The Red Dragons own the series against the Cards 37-12-4. Although, Plattsburgh came away with a 2-0 win in 2025. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.

Players to Watch – Both goals last week were scored by players coming in off the bench, graduate senior Iyare Harris (Kingston, NY/Kingston) and sophomore Jack Bochenski (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester).

Field Hockey
The Red Dragon Field Hockey team will travel to VTSU Castleton on Wednesday, September 30, to take on the Mustangs at 4:00 pm. Oneonta currently owns a 3-4 record coming off a split in action last week. The Red Dragons suffered a tight loss to Misericordia and bounced back with a thrashing of Kings College. VTSU Castleton has a 3-5 record. They won their last game against Thomas College 3-1. The series between the two teams is all tied up at 3-3-0. Oneonta took the win in 2025 with a 3-2 victory in double overtime.

On Saturday, Oct 3, Oneonta will host SUNY Morrisville to begin SUNYAC play for the season. Morrisville is currently 4-2 on the season. They have a game against Brockport this week before traveling to Oneonta. Oneonta owns the series versus Morrisville 17-1-0, including a 10-0 win last season.

Players to Watch – Senior Alexandra Howell (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) scored four of the five goals against Kings College. She also had the assist for junior Miranda Colacchio (Lagrange, N.Y./Arlington), who scored her first goal of the season.

Cross Country
The SUNY Oneonta Cross Country programs will be traveling to SUNY Fredonia this weekend to compete in the Fredonia State Kara Hall Memorial Invitational. In their last outing the women's team finish 3rd out of 16 teams at Rochester. Top finishers for the women were junior Natalia Sweat (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh) coming in at 10th and senior Anya Sloth (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta Senior) who finished 26th.

The men's team placed 8th out of 17 teams in Rochester. The top finisher for the men was sophomore Alexander Kunz who finished 37th.

The races are set for Friday, October 2, at 11:00 am for the women and 12:00 pm for the men.

Women's Tennis
The SUNY Oneonta Women's Tennis team will send representatives to the ITA Northeast Regional Championship this weekend in Saratoga Springs, NY hosted by Skidmore College. The women had their Saturday match versus Plattsburgh postponed but won easily against Fredonia before that 7-0.

Men's Tennis
The Men's Tennis team will be heading to Union College for their first head-to-head matchup of the season on Saturday, Oct 3 at 10:00 am. Union is entering the match 1-0 after a 7-0 win against Bard College. The Red Dragons own the series 24-9 but lost this past spring to the Garnet Chargers 6-1.
