UTICA, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's cross country team placed second out of seven teams at Saturday morning's SUNY Poly Short Course 6k Invitational. The Red Dragons scored 30 points, while Utica won with 25.

Fifth-year Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) paced Oneonta with a second-place finish at 19:47, while Utica's Bennett Melita won at 19:22.

Senior Gabe Burns (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) took third overall at 20:15, while fifth-year John Balk, Jr. (Suffern, NY/Suffern) was sixth at 20:45.

Sophomore Lucas Berg (Nyack, NY/Nyack) crossed ninth overall with a time of 21:47, while sophomore Chris Schimkus (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) took tenth at 21:47.

Oneonta had the following two runners in freshman Vincent Distefano at 11th (21:47) and sophomore Noah Pickard (Batavia, NY/Batavia) at 12th (21:59).

The Red Dragons took the 14th through 17th places. Freshman Brady McGowan (Seaford, NY/Seaford) placed 14th at 22:02.2, and sophomore Jesse Woodhouse (Nyack, NY/Nyack) crossed 15th at 22:07.8. Senior Shane Marchese (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) finished 16th at 22:18.2, while senior Matt Hayden (Long Valley, NJ/) ran a 22:21.6 for 17th overall.

Oneonta next travels to the Oswego State Invitational on Sat Sept. 7 at 11 a.m.
