FREDONIA, N.Y. - Fifth-year Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) qualified for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships for the second straight year following an 18th-place finish at the Niagara Region Championships on Saturday morning. The Red Dragons finished seventh out of 22 teams with 217 points. NYU won the meet with 29 points, while Geneseo's Charlie Wilson was the individual champion at 24:51.8.
Bierman earned all-region status after running a 25:41.5. Senior Gabe Burns (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) made the all-region team with a 25th-place finish at 26:05.5, while fifth-year John Balk, Jr. (Suffern, NY/Suffern) also grabbed all-region honors by placing 35th at 26:36.3. Sophomore Chris Schimkus (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) crossed 49th overall at 26:56.1 as Oneonta fourth runner.
Sophomore Lucas Berg (Nyack, NY/Nyack) ran a 28:07.6 to finish 98th overall, and freshman Brady McGowan (Seaford, NY/Seaford) took 116th at 28:47.3. Fifth-year Matt Hayden (Long Valley, NJ/) was Oneonta's seventh runner at 130th with a 29:28.1.
Bierman next represents Oneonta at the national championship meet on Nov. 23 at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Indiana.
