SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced the 2022 Field Hockey All-Conference Team and seniors
Carly Waszczak (Northport, N.Y./Northport),
Sophia Little (Northport, N.Y./Northport), and
Victoria Pixley (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) were honored. Waszczak and Little were named to the First Team and Pixley was selected to the Second Team. This was Waszczak's second time receiving the honor.
"Carly has developed into one of the most elite defenders in our region," said Head Coach
Kelly Kingsbury. "She is a fundamentally sound player on both sides of the ball and as our center back she controls the backfield extremely well. Carly added to her skill set on attack this year on attacking corners as our inserter. She brought a lot for us and will be tough to replace next Fall!"
Waszczak started 16 games for the Red Dragons and led the team offensively with seven goals while she controlled the inbound pass for penalty corners. Despite missing a game, she accumulated the fifth most minutes (960) on the team and led the defense with five defensive saves.
"Sophia has one of the highest hockey IQs I have ever coached," said Coach Kingsbury. "She understands the game and helps teammates see it unfolding around her. Sophia's versatility and ability to play on any line helped us in so many ways this season. We will definitely miss Sophia's leadership on and off the field!"
Little started all 17 games for Oneonta and played the fourth most minutes (973) on the team. While being an all-round leader for the team, she finished the season with one goal and three assists for five points.
"Tori is definitely our unsung hero and I am so thankful that our conference coaches were able to recognize Tori for her contributions this season," Coach Kingsbury continued. "So many times this season we found ourselves saying 'Thank goodness for Tori', she is a work horse in the backfield for us. She is humble and the type of player you want on your team and will be missed tremendously next season!
Pixley started all 17 games for the Red Dragons while logging 1,011 minutes, the most of any field player on the team and second overall. Pixley primarily stayed in the backfield and recorded three defensive saves.
