Three Red Dragons Selected to SUNYAC Field Hockey All-Conference Team

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta field hockey team had juniors Alexandra Howell (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East), Abigail Draper (Remsen, NY/Holland Patent), and graduate student Caitlyn Caulfield (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) selected to the SUNYAC All-Conference teams, as announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon. The All-SUNYAC teams, as well as the other end of season awards, are voted on by the six conference coaches.

Howell was named to SUNYAC's First Team, while Caulfield and Draper earned Second Team honors. It is the second time Draper and Howell have received All-Conference recognition (Howell: 2024 1st Team, Draper: 2024 2nd Team), and it is Caulfield's first time in her career.

"I'm so thrilled for the three of them!" Head Coach Kelly Kingsbury exclaimed. "Super proud of all of their contributions this season!"

Howell started in all 17 games as a forward for Oneonta this season and earned her second All-SUNYAC First Team accolade after finishing the year with team-highs in goals (11), assists (10), points (32), and game-winning goals (3). She ranked third in the conference in all respective categories, and led all players from New York SUNYAC teams in goals and points.

"Ali had a great season with double digits goals and assists which really speaks to her ability to ignite the attack," Coach Kingsbury commented.

In SUNYAC play, the Holtzville, N.Y. junior recorded four goals and two assists for 10 points. It was the fourth-most goals and points scored in the conference. Howell had six games where she recorded at least three points, and had a three-goal, two-assist performance for eight points against Morrisville. Howell will enter her senior season already ranked third in Red Dragon program history for career assists (27) and 12th in career points (85).

Draper started all 17 games as a center midfielder for the Red Dragons this year for her second All-Conference team honor and finished with the team-high seven assists and had a goal for nine points. She was tied for fifth in the league in assists and was 20th in the SUNYAC in points.

"Abby continues with her work horse mentality," said Coach Kingsbury. "It was nice to get her up the field a bit more this year and she really is so impactful on both end of the field for us."

On the defensive side, Draper led the team and was tied for second in the SUNYAC with four defensive saves, including one in the conference semifinals against Salisbury. The Remsen, N.Y. junior currently has 12 assists and nine defensive saves in her career.

Caulfield also started all 17 games for Oneonta as a defender and was one of 11 players in the conference to record a defensive save.

"Cait was a wall in the center back spot for us, and she protected the backfield extremely well," Coach Kingsbury continued. "Having her in front of Maura really kept us in some tight games this season!"

On the offensive side of the field, Caulfield was tied for third on the team in goals (5), assists (3), and points (13). Those marks were tied for 16th in the SUNYAC with senior teammate Molly Miller (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa). She scored two penalty stroke goals this season and finished with six in her career. Caulfield also totaled six defensive saves during her time with the Red Dragons.

"I'm so happy Cait decided to stay and use her eligibility," Coach Kingsbury concluded. "She really gained great game experience last year which allowed us to get Abby up the field."

Oneonta ended the season 9-8 overall with a 2-3 conference record and made it to the SUNYAC tournament semifinals.
