COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. -- The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) released their NCAA Division III All-Region Teams, and Oneonta field hockey junior
Alexandra Howell (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) was selected to the Region III Team. Howell earned Second Team honors and is being recognized with All-Region status for the first time in her career.
"Ali had a great season and I'm so glad she got rewarded for it," said head coach
Kelly Kingsbury. "She has developed her game into a quintessential playmaker."
Howell started in all 17 games as a forward for Oneonta this season and earned her second All-SUNYAC First Team accolade after finishing the year with team-highs in goals (11), assists (10), points (32), and game-winning goals (3). She ranked third in the conference in all four categories.
In SUNYAC play, the Holtsville, N.Y. junior totaled four goals and two assists for 10 points. It was the fourth-most goals and points recorded in the conference. Howell had six games where she recorded at least three points, and had a three-goal, two-assist performance for eight points against Morrisville.
"I'm fairly confident that almost every goal we scored this season, she had her hand in creating the opportunity in some way, shape, or form," Kingsbury continued. "I can't wait to see what she makes of her senior season next fall. She keeps raising the bar for herself every season."Â
Howell enters her senior season already third in program history in career assists (27) and 12th all time in career points (85).
The Red Dragons finished the season with a 9-8 record and clinched a spot in the SUNYAC tournament. Oneonta had three individuals (
Caitlyn Caulfield (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland),
Abigail Draper (Remsen, NY/Holland Patent), and Howell) named to the All-SUNYAC team and Howell tabbed All-Region.
