Box Score Oswego, NY – The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team has been dominant in this young season and today was no different as they remained undefeated beating the Oswego Lakers 8-1. The one point Oswego scored was the first individual match the Red Dragons women's team has dropped thus far in the fall 2017 campaign. This four-match winning streak has been done with three freshmen in the starting lineup and only one senior making it even more impressive.
Junior
Alyssa Brault (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) and freshman
Julieta Eulau (Oceanside/Oceanside) were almost flawless in the dismantling of their opponents in the number one doubles position winning 8-1. Freshman
Mya Lipscomb (Peekskill/Walter Panas) and senior
Samantha Felice (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) were very consistent dominating their opponents in the second doubles position earning a well-deserved 8-2 triumph. Freshman
Emma Messenger (Marlboro/Marlboro) and
Danielle Swierczyna (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) duplicated the 8-2 score earning a victory at the third position with dominating net play.
A commanding 3-0 lead held up for the Red Dragons as they went on to win five of the six singles matches contested. Singles positions 1-4 all were complete shutouts as the Red Dragon women in those spots all won their matches without so much as dropping a game. Brault, Eulau, junior
Michelle Halpern (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) and Lipscomb respectively handed their Oswego foes lots of bagels in their shutouts. Messenger at number six also had little trouble and settled into a consistent groove earning 6-3, 6-1 win.
In Exhibition matches freshmen Kthari Han and
Fatoumata Ouattara (Manhattan/Essex Street Academy) made their collegiate doubles debut and got their first Red Dragon win. Freshman
Gianna Papini (Helwett/George W. Hewlett) earned a nice shutout win in her singles match and freshman
Dorothy Zeisler (Davenport/Charlotte Valley) also came away with a victory. Papini and Zeisler both stay undefeated in those roles.
Next up for the Red Dragons is a visit to the defending conference champions SUNY Geneseo on Thursday, September 21
st beginning at 3:30 PM. This will be a major test for the Red Dragons who are looking to make a dent in the Geneseo tennis machine.
