Women's lacrosse picks up key SUNYAC win at Fredonia

Box Score FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Oneonta scored five of the last six goals today and overtook Fredonia, 12-9, in SUNYAC women's lacrosse at University Stadium.

Senior attack Katie Miller scored with 4:02 left to forge a 9-9 tie. It was her third goal of the game and 24th this spring.

Out of a Red Dragon timeout following Miller's goal, freshman Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) gathered the ensuing draw, raced through the defense, and scored the tie-breaking goal with 3:52 remaining.  Freshman Allison Butler (Queensbury/Queensbury) and sophomore Taylor Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg Memorial) scored insurance goals as Oneonta improved to 5-9 overall and kept its SUNYAC playoff hopes alive at 2-4 with two games remaining in the regular season at New Paltz Tuesday and SUNY Geneseo next Saturday.

The loss dropped the Blue Devils to 5-10 overall and put their SUNYAC playoff hopes in doubt with a 1-5 conference mark and two games left -- Tuesday at Buffalo State and next Saturday at New Paltz.

Oneonta jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes.  Cohen had a pair of the goals along with unassisted goals by Katie Flannery (Massapequa/Plainedge) and Jaime Morris (West Nyack/Clarkstown South).

Butler and Casey scored back-to-back goals to push Oneonta's lead back to four with just under 10 minutes to play in the first half.

Senior Catherine Clark (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) gave the Red Dragons a 7-4 lead at halftime with her goal with 13 seconds left in the opening half.

Fredonia scored the first four goals of the second half to take an 8-7 lead on a goal by sophomore midfielder Audrey Yokopovich, her 24th of the season. After the teams traded goals, Oneonta went on its winning rally.

Yokopovich and senior defender Juliana Kotas had two goals each while freshmen midfielders Jade Williams and Samantha Spiess had one goal each.
