OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oneonta women's lacrosse team fell 15-4 to top-seeded Oswego (13-4, 9-0) in the SUNYAC Semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.
Oswego seized control early, scoring six times in the opening quarter and adding five more in the second to build an 11-1 halftime advantage. Â Oneonta (10-6, 6-3) struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the first half, managing just two shots through the opening 30 minutes. Â
Despite the deficit, the Red Dragons showed resilience coming out of the break. Oneonta outscored Oswego 2-0 in the third quarter behind a pair of goals from freshman Ava Fitzsimons (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River), including a free-position score with under a minute remaining in the period.
Senior Lindsey Townes (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) paced Oneonta offensively with two goals, including a woman-down strike late in the second quarter and another finish in the fourth.
Defensively, junior goalkeeper Margot Haring (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks) made eight saves over nearly 50 minutes of action, while freshman Ava Berkowitz (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) added one stop in relief. Freshman Emily McIntee (East Islip, NY/East Islip) contributed a team-high four caused turnovers, along with four ground balls.
Oswego was led by Alexis Hill, who tallied five goals and two assists, while Addison Costello added three goals in the win. The Lakers held advantages in shots (29-9) and draw controls (13-6), key factors in maintaining possession throughout the contest. Â
Oswego will play Cortland in the SUNYAC Championship game on Saturday, May 2, at 1 p.m.
