Women's lacrosse leads wire-to-wire in win at Scranton

Senior Chelsea Collins set career assist mark

Box Score SCRANTON, Pa.—SUNY Oneonta junior attacker Kiera McNally (East Northport/Northport) had five goals and two assists to lead the Red Dragons  to a 16-9 victory over The University of Scranton in non-conference women's lacrosse action Wednesday evening at Fitzpatrick Field.

The Red Dragons, now 10-6, also received three goals and an assist from junior midfielder Nikki Fioretti (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) and two goals apiece from sophomore attacker Catherine Clark (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) and senior midfielder Casey Sarle (West Islip/West Islip).  Senior Chelsea Collins (St. James/Smithtown East) also contributed three assists, which pushed her into first on the all-time career assists list.  Collins, who also owns the single season mark for assists set a week ago, now has 77 career assists, passing Caroline Tulley (Malverne/Sacred Heart Academy), who set the mark at 75 when she graduated a year ago.

Scranton, which had a season-long three-game winning streak snapped to fall to 5-8, was led by freshman attacker Meghan Kerr with three goals, senior attacker Kerry Sullivan and junior midfielder Emily Goss scored two goals apiece, and senior attacker Erin Green finished with a goal and two assists.

McNally scored three times within a four-minute span midway through the first half as the Red Dragons bolted out to a 4-1 lead en route to a 6-3 lead by intermission. Oneonta then put together two runs early in the second half to break the game open.

The Red Dragons held a 31-24 advantage in shots and a 26-21 margin in ground balls.  They also won 17 of the 27 draw controls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Reichardt (Kings Park/Kings Park) finished with nine saves in 51 minutes of action before giving way to senior Laura Grose (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown), who stopped two shots in the nearly nine minutes she played.  Royal junior goalkeeper Emily Towey made five saves.

Kerr's three goals this evening gives her 21 on the season.  She has scored 14 of them in her last five games.

Oneonta will finish out the regular season at home this Saturday with a game against Oswego beginning at noon.  The Red Dragons are still battling for one of the final playoff spots in the SUNYAC, which begins next Tuesday.
