Box Score The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team was downed today by Brockport, 14-10, in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament on the road. This was the first year of an expanded bracket that included a first round game between the No. 4 & 5 seeds. The loss for the Red Dragons completes a 9-9 season overall while Brockport moves on to face top-seeded SUNY Cortland on Friday in the conference tournament semifinals.
After falling behind 1-0 in the eighth minute, sophomore
Jillian Donodeo (Holbrook/Sachem East) and senior
Caroline Tulley (Malverne/Sacred Heart Academy) scored back-to-back to give Oneonta its first lead of the contest at 2-1.
The Golden Eagles countered with four straight goals to take a 5-2 lead midway through the first half. Sarah Brown led Brockport (12-5) with a goal and an assist.
Sophomore
Kiera McNally (East Northport/Northport) scored off an assist from junior
Chelsea Collins (St. James/Smithtown East) to cut Brockport's lead back to 5-3.
The Golden Eagles scored three of the final five goals of the half to take an 8-5 lead into halftime. McNally scored both of Oneonta's goals with Donodeo assisting on both.
Brockport drew first in the second half before Oneonta stormed back with five unanswered goals to take a 10-9 lead with 13 minutes remaining in the game. Collins and McNally each had a pair of goals in the run.
Unfortunately, Oneonta was held scoreless for the latter part of the game while the hosts scored the final five goals for the final margin of victory.
McNally led Oneonta with five goals and one assist. Collins had two goals and two assists.
Junior
Laura Grose (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) made a career high 17 saves in the game, as Brockport tallied 36 shots for the game to Oneonta's 23 shots.
