Women's lacrosse dominates in season opener

Box Score The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse opened its 2013 season today with a lopsided, 20-5, victory over city rival Hartwick College.  The Red Dragons jumped out to an 11-2 lead at halftime and cruised in the second half en route to the dominating victory.

Leading Oneonta today were sophomore Kiera McNally (East Northport/Northport) and senior Caroline Tulley (Malverne/Sacred Heart Academy), who had eight points and seven points respectively.  McNally scored six goals in the game while Tulley added five goals. They both had three goals by halftime.

Sophomore Jillian Donodeo (Holbrook/Sachem East) added three goals and one assist while junior Chelsea Collins (St. James/Smithtown East) contributed four assists.

Kate O'Shea and Kia Ference each had a pair of goals to lead Hartwick (1-2).

Oneonta scored the game's first goal in the fifth minute before Ally Naja tied it for the Hawks less than 30 seconds later.  Oneonta put the game away with eight unanswered goals over the next 15 minutes.

Junior Laura Grose (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) made three saves and allowed only two goals to pick up the win in goal for the Red Dragons.  Steph Luce made 16 saves in goal for the Hawks.

Oneonta will be at Rensselaer tomorrow for its first road test of the season beginning at 4pm.
