Box Score The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team locked horns yesterday with its second straight nationally ranked squad this week. Unfortunately, they came up short to the No. 19 Cardinals, 12-8. The Cardinals improve to 5-2 on the year while the Red Dragons fall to 4-2 with the loss.
After freshman
Allison McClain (Wantagh/Wantagh) gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead in the second minute of the game, The Cardinals ran off four straight to take a 4-1 lead.
The Red Dragons fought back, tying the game at 4-4 with three-straight goals, but Fisher scored the half's last two to head into the locker room with a 6-4 lead. Sophomore
Kiera McNally (East Northport/Northport) scored her 18th and 19th goals of the season while classmate
Nicole Boylan (Massapequa/Massapequa) scored her 10th of the year.
Sophomore
Nikki Fioretti (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) scored just 27 seconds into the second half to pull the Red Dragons to within one goal at 6-5.
Fisher was able to answer with two goals just 20 seconds apart to increase its lead to 8-5. Emily Bryerton completed her hat trick at the 20:43 mark of the second half to give Fisher a four-goal lead at 9-5, its largest margin of the day. Though the Red Dragons would bring the game within two goals at 10-8, they were never able to regain the advantage.
McNally led Oneonta with three goals and one assist. Sophomore
Jillian Donodeo (Holbrook/Sachem East) added one goal and two assists.
Laura Grose (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) made nine saves in goal for Oneonta.
Oneonta will be traveling south to Clermont, Fla. to play a pair of games this week. The Red Dragons face Western Connecticut State tomorrow before facing Union on Wednesday.
