Box Score SUNY Oneonta sophomore
Jillian Donodeo (Holbrook/Sachem East) scored five goals today in helping to lead the women's lacrosse team to a 15-14 overtime victory over undefeated Farmingdale State. Donodeo scored with four seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into the extra session where she scored her second game-tying goal with less than two minutes remaining in overtime.
Oneonta (3-1) found itself one goal down throughout the overtime period before junior
Casey Sarle (West Islip/West Islip) tied the score at 14 apiece with 53 seconds left. Sophomore
Kiera McNally (East Northport/Northport) scored the game-winner with 23 seconds remaining on a fast break. Freshman
Randal Cook (Northport/Northport) caused the turnover that led to the break, as Donodeo passed the ball ahead to senior
Caroline Tulley (Malverne/Sacred Heart Academy), who saw McNally behind the Farmingdale (3-1) defense.
Tulley finished the game with four goals and three assists to lead Oneonta with seven points.
After battling to a 6-6 score through the first 30 minutes, Oneonta opened up some breathing room with three unanswered goals to take a 9-6 lead in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Tulley, McNally and Donodeo each scored for the Red Dragons.
The Rams didn't go quietly, as they countered with a pair of goals to close the gap back to 9-8. Kristen Ranaldo and Kimberly Pepe each score on free position shots. Ranaldo and Pepe each scored two goals in today's contest.
After an unassisted goal by Tulley gave Oneonta a 10-8 lead, the Rams ran off three straight goals to take an 11-10 lead with less than 12 minutes to go in the contest. Pepe, Carly Schneider and Emily Wolff each tallied for Farmingdale.
Sarle scored her fifth goal of the season in the 54th minute that evened the score at 11-11.
Schneider scored an unassisted goal with just under three minutes to go that put the Rams ahead 12-11.
Junior goalie,
Laura Grose (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown), who finished the game with nine saves, had a pair of saves after Farmingdale went ahead 12-11.
Oneonta will host nationally ranked Hamilton College on Tuesday at All College Field beginning at 4pm.
