Box Score The Oneonta State women's lacrosse team dominated visiting Oswego today en route to a 21-9 win. The win for Oneonta (11-2/4-2 SUNYAC) tied the single season record for wins, which was set in 2003 when the team finished 11-4. The victory also kept the Red Dragons in contention for one of the four conference playoff spots with two games remaining against SUNY Cortland and Brockport this week.
Oneonta actually found themselves behind 2-1, 12 minutes into today's game. The Red Dragons then ran off six unanswered to take the lead for good with 10 minutes still remaining in the first half.
Senior
Rebecca Monteith (West Islip/West Islip) led the attack once again today. She scored five goals and added two assists in the first half en route to seven goals and three assists in the game. Monteith continues to add to her career leading numbers as she closes in on 300 career points and 250 career goals. She also broke her own single season record for points as she now has 84 on the season, which is one more than the 83 points she had as a freshman.
Junior
Andrea Spano (Mt. Sinai/Mt. Sinai) added four goals and one assist today. Classmate
Caroline Tulley (Malverne/Sacred Heart Academy) had three goals while adding a pair of assists.
Oneonta pushed its lead to 10 goals early in the second half on goals by senior
Heidi Kissinger (East Islip/East Islip) and Monteith. A goal by sophomore
Alexa Anzalone (Rocky Point/Rocky Point) 12 minutes into the second half gave the Red Dragons its largest lead of the game at 19-4.
Oneonta held a decided shot advantage in today's game, 46-22, while controlling 23 draws and converting 3-of-9 free position shots.
Oswego (3-8/0-6 SUNYAC) was led by Erin Cummings, who scored six goals.
Oneonta will take on nationally ranked SUNY Cortland this Tuesday at home beginning at 4pm.
