Box Score The Oneonta State women's lacrosse team went on the road and defeated New Paltz today 22-14 in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons rebounded in a big way after its first loss of the season this past Saturday to move to 9-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Senior
Rebecca Monteith (West Islip/West Islip) continues to tear up the conference as she notched eight more goals to bring her team-leading total to 48. Monteith, who last week became the all-time leading scorer for the women's lacrosse program, now has 226 goals and 280 points currently in her career.
Oneonta jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the opening seven minutes led by junior
Caroline Tulley (Malverne/Sacred Heart Academy), who scored all three of her goals in the middle of Monteith and freshman
Jillian Donodeo (Holbrook/Sachem East).
The two teams played even for the remainder of the half as Oneonta took a 9-4 lead into the break.
The two squads exploded offensively in the second half combining for 23 goals. Monteith got Oneonta going in the first minute of the second half with an assist from Tulley to make the score 10-4. New Paltz continued to battle and a goal by Julia Johnson midway through the second half cut Oneonta's lead to three goals at 13-10.
Oneonta seized back the momentum from that point, outscoring the Hawks 9-4 the rest of the way for the final margin of victory.
Tulley added three assists in the game for a total of six points. Junior
Andrea Spano (Mt. Sinai/Mt. Sinai) collected three goals and one assist. Freshman
Kiera McNally (East Northport/Northport) had two goals including the game-winner to go with a pair of assists.
Senior goalie
Annelise Muscietta (Lindenhurst/Walter O'Connell Copiague) made eight saves to run her record to 9-1 on the season.
Oneonta will be at SUNY Geneseo this Saturday for a key SUNYAC game beginning at 1pm.
