Women's lacrosse still hot; defeat St. John Fisher 20-13

Red Dragons now 5-0 on the season

Box Score The Oneonta State women's lacrosse team continues to be unbeatable as today they defeated a solid St. John Fisher team 20-13 to remain undefeated at 5-0.  The five wins to begin the season is the first time since 2003 that the Red Dragons have won its first five games out of the gate.  In 2003, the women began the season 7-0 en route to an 11-4 mark.

Oneonta jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first three minutes on goals by senior Heidi Kissinger (East Islip/East Islip) and freshman Kiera McNally (East Northport/Northport).  Kissinger would finish the game with four goals while McNally would go on to notch six goals while adding one assist.  Freshman McNally continued her torrid scoring pace that has her leading the team with 20, which is an average of four goals per game.  She has scored at least three goals in each of her first five collegiate games.

After an Emily Bryerton goal got St. John Fisher on the scoreboard, Oneonta ran off three straight to push its lead to 5-1.  Kissinger had two of the goals while junior Caroline Tulley (Malverne/Sacred Heart Academy) added a goal and an assist.

Bryerton scored the second Cardinals goal to make the score 5-2 before the Red Dragons ripped off three more unanswered to push its lead up to 8-2 with less than seven minutes to go in the first half.  McNally scored two of the three goals for Oneonta.

A goal by junior Melissa Leonhard 13:33 into the second half got the Cardinals as close as they would get in the game at 13-10.  Leonhard finished the game with a team high four goals including her team leading 20th of the season.

Oneonta did a tremendous job of possessing the ball during the final seven minutes of the game while adding five more goals to its total.  Senior Rebecca Monteith (West Islip/West Islip) was key with a goal and three assists during the final push to victory.  Monteith finished the contest with a pair of goals and five assists to match McNally's seven points.
