ONEONTA, N.Y.—The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team had eight players score at least one goal today en route to a 16-5 victory over New Paltz in SUNYAC action at All College Field. Junior
Heidi Kissinger (East Islip/East Islip) and sophomore
Caroline Tulley (Malverne/Sacred Heart Academy) led the Red Dragons with four goals each in the contest.
Oneonta (2-9/2-2 SUNYAC) broke the game wide open in the second half with seven unanswered goals after leading 9-5 at halftime. In her first collegiate start, freshman
Laura Grose (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) picked up her first collegiate victory in goal for the Red Dragons as she made 17 saves while allowing only five goals.
The Hawks (5-5/0-3 SUNYAC) took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by junior Julia Donato just over two minutes into the game.
Nine seconds later, junior
Rebecca Monteith (West Islip/West Islip), tied the score on an unassisted goal. Monteith assisted on the next goal for the Red Dragons as Kissinger gave Oneonta a 2-1 lead.
Back-to-back scores by New Paltz gave them its last lead of the contest at 3-2 as Oneonta tallied four straight goals to take a 6-3 lead. Kissinger scored two more goals during the run and had three of her four goals before halftime.
Tulley also scored two more times in the first half as the Red Dragons out shot the Hawks 23-12 in the opening 30 minutes. Oneonta finished the game with a 40-27 advantage overall in shots.
Oneonta will be home again this Saturday when they host Geneseo for another SUNYAC match beginning at 1:00 p.m.
