Oneonta, NY- Oneonta State women's field hockey made a comeback but fell short losing to Skidmore 5-2 on All College field. Junior
Jacqueline Camp (Queensbury/Queensbury) (Queensbury) was the team's only scorer on the day.
From the start of the game Skidmore controlled the turf with a shot in the first two minutes of play. The thoroughbreds followed that up with another four shots before their effort paid off. In the 18th minute of play Lauren McCarthy passed the ball to Carolyne McManama to put Skidmore on the board 1-0.
Skidmore didn't take long to add to the scoreboard in the start of the second half. In the 36th minute of play Katie Potter found a loose ball of a rebound and put it away to put Skidmore up 2-0.
Leading scorer for the Red Dragons
Ainsley Stoll (Williamsville) tried her best to get the team in it with two great opportunities that came up just short. Soon after Christine Kemp made a pass into the box where Kelly Blackhurst scored putting Skidmore up 3-0 in the 52nd minute of play.

Jacqueline Camp (Queensbury/Queensbury) wasn't giving up anytime soon. In the 54th minute, Camp received the ball off a deflection and shot it in the back of the net, giving hope to the Red Dragons. Camp found herself back in position to score for Oneonta when Skidmore was called for a penalty. Camp stepped up and scored the penalty stroke in the 65th minute giving the Red Dragons some resurgence down by one.
Just as Oneonta was ready to tie up the game, the dynamic duo of Blackhurst and Kemp scored twice for the Thoroughbreds in the 65th & 67th minute of play to hold off the Red Dragons, winning 5-2.
The Red Dragons will look for their next win when they face Houghton College Saturday, September 25th at 3p.m. on All College Field.
