Oneonta, NY - After falling to Montclair State in the first day of competition in the 2010 Mayor's Cup, the SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team found resilience defeating Widener 2-0 in the consolation game to finish in third place.

Oneonta took control of the game as soon as the whistle blew, having three shots in the first thirteen minutes of play. Unfortunately the Red Dragons couldn't find the back of the goal as the first half ended deadlocked at 0-0.

In the start of the second half, Oneonta came out fast with four shots in the first 15 minutes with the final one paying off with a goal in the 59th minute by sophomore Dan Josepher (Manorville). The play was set up off a direct kick by sophomore Dan Scott (Salt Point), who sent the ball towards the goal. Junior Tim Sagasti (Endicott) got his head on the ball and flicked it across the box where Josepher finished the play with a shot over the goalie.

It didn't take the Red Dragons long to notch the next goal as sophomore Ian Tenzer (Mahopac) scored a header goal off a corner kick sent in by Josepher.

The Red Dragons finished the game out shooting Widener 14 to 6.

Goalies Jesse Dobson (Holtsville) and Mike Lockwood (Hopewell Junction) both played a half shutting out Widener. Lockwood had one save on the day.

Juniors Nicholas Gregg (Apalachin) and Nicholas Lange (Freeville) were both honored for their play in the Mayor's Cup tournament by being announced to the All-Tournament team.

The Mayor's Cup is the longest running soccer tournament in the country dating back to 1975. The division III men's tournament of the Mayor's Cup is in its fourth year having started in 2007.
