BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Brockport's Hailey Lewkovich scored the game-winning goal a minute and a half into overtime to take an 11-10 win over the Oneonta women's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons fall to 3-2 overall, while the Golden Eagles move to 3-3.
Junior Margot Haring (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks) stopped the opening shot from Lewkovich, and responded with the freshman Emily McIntee (East Islip, NY/East Islip) netting the opening goal at 13:45 to make it 1-0. Brockport won the following draw control, and Emily Schiffer scored on a free position shot to tie.
After a green card on Brockport's Christina Ross at 12:02, senior Lindsey Townes (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) found the back of the net off an assist by senior Grave Beattie. The Golden Eagles evened the score with a goal from Karaline McCarthy. Oneonta closed out the first quarter on a 4-0 run with freshman Ava Fitzsimons (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) and senior Chelsea Dodenhoff (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) scoring free-position goals. McIntee tallied a goal at 2:12 to push Oneonta ahead by three, and Dodenhoff added another free-position score at 1:26 to make it 6-2.
The Red Dragons carried over into the second quarter with Townes scoring at 12:40 to push the lead to 7-2. Brockport answered with four consecutive goals, with two coming from Lewkovich to make it 7-6 heading into halftime.
The Golden Eagles shut out the Red Dragons 3-0 in the third quarter. Lewkovich scored at 4:27 to tie 7-7, and Amanda Evans gave Brockport the lead on a women-up goal at 3:59. Another player advantage goal from McCarthy made it 9-7 going into the fourth quarter.
An early goal by Fitzsimons to start the fourth quarter cut the Brockport lead to one. Neither side scored for six minutes until Dodenhoff scored on a free position at 6:34 to tie 9-9. McIntee gave the Red Dragons the lead with 5:13 remaining, but a final-minute goal from Tristan Davis forced overtime.
Brockport took only one shot after winning the overtime draw control, and it proved to be the game-winner from Lewkovich at 4:23.
Dodenhoff led Oneonta with three goals and one assist, while McIntee had three goals, five ground balls, and four caused turnovers. Townes and Fitzsimons each had two goals.
Lewkovich led the game with four goals. Davis added two goals and one assist. McCarthy finished with two goals, two assists, four ground balls, and eight draw controls.
Haring finished with eight saves in goal. Arianna Reed had eight for Brockport.
Oneonta next travels to Emerson on Wednesday, March 18, at 6 p.m.
