ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's track & field team heads to the SUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this week, starting on Friday, February 27, and then concluding on Saturday, February 28, at the SUNY Brockport Special Events Recreation Center. The Friday events begin at 2:30 p.m., then at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Last season, the Red Dragons finished as the SUNYAC runner-up, while Cortland won the meet. Junior Chris Schimkus (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) was the SUNYAC Champion in the 5,000-meter, while senior Tariq Earl (Centereach, NY/Centereach) took gold in the 60-meter hurdles. In total, Oneonta recorded ten All-SUNYAC performances.

60-Meter Dash
Junior Kejhaune Lester (Castleton, NY/Columbia) is ranked second in the SUNYAC and 38th in Division III at 6.87, which he ran at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational (1/31). Senior Alex Darrigo (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) was seeded 13th at 7.05
200-Meter Dash
Lester also competes in the 200-meter with a seed time of 22.53 for seventh overall. Senior Cam Spears (Bronx, NY/Monroe Woodbury) grabs the tenth seed at 22.73, while freshman Amir Mceachin (Middletown, NY/Middletown) is 13th at 22.87.
400-Meter Dash
Junior Jamar Matthew (Mt. Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon Stream Academy) enters the championship meet ranked 13th at 51.49. Sophomore Justin Berkowitz (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) ran a season-best of 51.99 (16th), while freshman Jacob Prentice (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) went for 52.01 (17th).
800-Meter
Oneonta features three runners in the top ten of the 800-meter race. Freshman Nick Petro (Peru, NY/Peru) is the highest-seeded Red Dragon at eight with a 2:00.47. Junior Jonathan McGwyne-Dantis (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) earned a season-best time of 2:01.85 at Cornell last week to be the tenth seed. Freshman Xander Kunz (Elbridge, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) is the 11th seed (2:02.02), while junior Lucas Berg (Nyack, NY/Nyack) took the 13th seed (2:02.38).
One Mile
Fifth-year Gabe Burns (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) comes in as the highest-seeded runner in the one-mile race at 4:23.58. Also expected to compete are junior Noah Pickard (Batavia, NY/Batavia) at the ninth seed (4:34.76) and freshman Alex Wheeler at the tenth seed (4:34.86).
3,000-Meter
Burns returns for the 3,000 as the third seed with a season-best time of 8:55.33.
5,000-Meter
Pickard qualified for the 5,000 with a 16:12.37 to pick up the ninth seed.
60-Meter Hurdles
Earl looks to defend his SUNYAC title in the 60-meter hurdles and ranks second in the conference at 8.38. Also competing are Matthew, the 11th seed (8.68), and freshman Haywood Edwards (), the 17th seed (8.89).
Distance Medley Relay (DMR)
The Red Dragons' DMR relay comes seeded second at 11:33.37.
High Jump
Junior Jayden Tsoi (North White Plains, NY/Valhalla High School) cleared 1.79 meters at the Ithaca Quad Meet to earn the tenth seed in the high jump. Junior Jesse James (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond's) is seeded 11th at 1.78 meters.
Pole Vault
Sophomore Loudon Krumbiegel (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) grabs the 13th seed in the pole vault at 3.57 meters.
Long Jump
Junior Isaiah Slater (Brooklyn, NY/John F. Kennedy) comes into the SUNYAC Championships ranked first and ninth in Division III in the long jump at 7.24 meters. Senior Josh Jerome (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) is seeded 11th at 6.77 meters, while sophomore Gabriel Schoonmaker (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout Valley) ranks 15th at 6.58 meters.
Triple Jump
At the three seed, Jerome set a personal best of 13.96 meters at the Utica Holiday Classic. Slater is seeded fifth at 13.71 meters, while Schoonmaker earned the ninth seed at 13.05 meters. Junior Tom Pinkowski (Groton, NY/Groton) is 11th at 12.87 meters, and Tsoi is seeded 16th with 12.62 meters.
Shot Put
Two Red Dragons are set to compete in the shot put, with senior Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) ranked 14th at 13.66 meters. Junior Elijah Cruz (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush Central) grabs the 15th seed at 13.61 meters.
Weight Throw
A personal best of 16.06 meters at the Southern Tier Invite gives Eckberg the fifth seed in the weight throw. Cruz takes the eighth seed at 15.84 meters, and junior Connor Vredenburgh (Bainbridge, NY/Bainbridge) is seeded 16th at 14.63 meters.
Heptathlon
Senior Jackson Sergeant (Pearl River, NY/Clarkstown South) competes in the heptathlon as the third seed with 3,498 points.
