ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Oneonta field hockey junior
Alexandra Howell (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) was named the SUNYAC Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, for the week of September 22-28, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon. Howell recorded three goals and two assists for eight points to help Oneonta secure their conference opening match as the team went 1-1 on the week.
After a close double overtime contest at Misericordia, Oneonta faced Morrisville in the SUNYAC opener and defeated the Mustangs, 10-0, where Howell registered three goals and two assists for eight points, the third most points scored in a single game in program history. The junior forward fired in the first two goals of the game against Morrisville, then she assisted the next two scores before scoring her hat trick in the early moments of the third quarter.
Howell currently leads the SUNYAC in goals (9) and points (25), while she co-leads the conference in assists (7) and game-winning goals (3).
The Red Dragons are 7-2 this season, 1-0 in SUNYAC, and they will travel to New Paltz on Saturday, October 4, for a conference match against the Hawks at 12:30 pm.
