ONEONTA, N.Y. — SUNY Oneonta Director of Athletics Ryan Hooper, alongside Hartwick College's Executive Director of Athletics Paul Vecchio, is proud to announce the formal launch of the Battle of the Hills—a spirited rivalry that now comes with a brand-new trophy and yearlong bragging rights.
Separated by less than a mile, SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick College have been squaring off for over 55 years in some of the region's most anticipated athletic contests. From the field to the pool, these matchups have become staples of the Oneonta community, drawing passionate fans and showcasing the pride of both institutions.
"This rivalry is woven into the fabric of our campus, our town, and the surrounding communities," said Ryan Hooper, SUNY Oneonta Director of Athletics. "Formalizing the Battle of the Hills gives our student-athletes, coaches, and fans something tangible to rally around. It's about tradition, competition, and celebrating what makes Oneonta such a special place for college athletics. We hope you will come out and enjoy this re-energized rivalry. Here We Go O!"
From historic Division I clashes to today's fierce Division III showdowns, SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick share a legacy that continues to grow. The Red Dragons are ready to defend their turf and compete for the inaugural trophy, beginning with Women's Tennis on Thursday, August 28, at Wilber Park.
