SUNYAC Announces Women's Tennis Awards and All-Conference Teams, Plue Named Rookie of the Year

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNYAC released its 2025 women's tennis annual awards including the Peter J. Cahill Most Valuable Player, Doubles Team of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year and All-Conference teams as voted on by the conference coaches, Thursday afternoon. Oneonta Red Dragon freshman Taylor Plue (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) was tabbed the conference's Rookie of the Year, while senior Danielle Copp (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) was named to the All-SUNYAC Second Team.

"I'm so proud of Dani and Taylor," said interim head coach Tim Sagasti. "They worked incredibly hard this year and deserved to be recognized for everything they've done."

Plue won seven matches at No. 3 singles in her first year with Oneonta and finished the season 7-11. In conference play, she defeated her Fredonia opponent, Gabby Farr, in straight 6-1 sets. When it came to doubles play, the Saratoga Springs native won five matches at No. 2 doubles and had one win on the No. 1 court. Her victory on the 1st Doubles happened when she paired up with sophomore Haley Peck (West Point, N.Y./James I. O'Neil) for a 6-3 victory against Western New England. In SUNYAC doubles, she teamed up mainly with junior Kelly Hayes (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) and recorded a record of 2-2 with wins against Cortland, 7-5, and Fredonia, 6-3.

Copp was named to the All-SUNYAC team for the first time in her career. She received Second Team honors at 2nd Singles. The Marcellus native finished the season 8-9 in singles play with a 6-8 record on the No. 2 court and 2-1 at No. 1 singles. In conference play, Copp went 3-2 overall including a victory on the No. 1 singles court. On the No. 2 court she defeated her Cortland opponent, Mary Repass, 6-3, 6-4, and her Oswego challenger, Rafaela Dimitrakopou, in a superset tiebreaker, 6-2, 2-6, 10-6. Copp's win on the No. 1 court in SUNYAC play happened in a comeback against Plattsburgh's Ava Carey in another superset tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-4, 10-7. She tallied her other 1st singles win against Western New England.

Oneonta finished the 2024-25 season 5-13 overall and 0-5 in the conference play.
