ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-8 decision to Oswego on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons fall to 3-8 overall and 2-2 in the SUNYAC, while the Lakers move to 8-2 and 4-0 in the conference.
Back-to-back goals from junior Lindsey Townes (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) gave Oneonta a 3-1 lead in the first quarter. Oswego responded with scores from Julia Quirk and Cassidy Croce tied 3-3 at 5:25. Senior Mason Benvenuto (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) scored on an assist from freshman Angelina Weinert (Levittown, NY/Division Avenue) to retake the lead at 4-3. Senior Cassidy Moore (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) scored with 27 seconds left to push the lead to two goals.
The Lakers used a 6-0 second quarter, with three goals from Alexis Hill, to jump out to a 9-5 lead.
The Red Dragons mounted a comeback in the third, with senior Elizabeth Doherty (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) scoring at 10:17 to spur a 3-0 run. Moore scored two goals in a minute to cut the lead to 9-8. Quirk scored for Oswego at 3:16, making it 10-8 heading into the fourth.
Oswego outscored Oneonta 7-0 in the fourth, with Aubriana Green scoring thrice.
Moore led Oneonta with three goals, two assists, and four draw controls, while Townes added two goals. Doherty scored two goals with three draw controls.
Quirk and Green each had four goals, while Croce and Hill had three goals. Green finished with ten draw controls and four ground balls.
Senior Julia Hawkins (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) made nine saves, and Alana Iacovissi had ten.
Oneonta next travels to face Plattsburgh on Tue. Apr. 8 at 4 p.m.
