TROY, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's track & field team took fourth out of 13 teams at the RPI Capital District Classic on Friday afternoon with 73 points. RPI won the meet with 249 points.
The track events started with the 110-meter hurdle prelims, where junior Tariq Earl (Centereach, NY/Centereach) was first at 14.58. Junior Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School) took sixth with a 15.80 to reach the finals. Earl was second in the finals at 14.95, while Hitzschke ran a personal best of 15.53 for fifth.
Junior Cam Spears (Bronx, NY/Monroe Woodbury) reached the 100-meter dash finals after taking third in the prelims at 10.97. He then took third in the finals at a personal best of 10.95.
Fifth-year John Balk, Jr. (Suffern, NY/Suffern) ran a personal record of 4:05.95 to place fourth in the 1,500-meter race. Senior Matt Hayden (Long Valley, NJ) placed 14th with a personal best of 4:15.30.
Sophomore Colin Gerbsch (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) took 15th in the 800-meter race with a personal best of 1:59.19.
In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Justin Berkowitz (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) took fourth at 57.45.
Sophomore Noah Pickard (Batavia, NY/Batavia) took ninth in the 5,000-meter at a personal record of 16:20.67.
Oneonta's 4x400 relay of Berkowitz, Colin Bresnihan (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa), Mark Cappelino (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park), and Narmer Johnson (Elmont, NY/Elmont) placed second at 3:28.04.
Sophomore Elijah Cruz (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush Central) placed sixth in the hammer throw at 50.08 meters, while senior Marco Altieri (Staten Island, NY/Staten Island) took seventh at 48.33 meters. Senior Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) threw 46.38 meters for ninth, and sophomore Justin Baldwin (Cato, NY/Cato-Meridian) took tenth at 44.54 meters.
Sophomore Connor Vredenburgh (Bainbridge, NY/Bainbridge-Guilford) earned eighth in the discus with a throw of 36.62 meters, while Eckberg grabbed ninth at 36.00 meters.
Altieri finished sixth in the javelin at 46.42 meters.
In the long jump, sophomore Isaiah Slater (Brooklyn, NY/John F. Kennedy) took fourth at 6.59 meters. Junior Josh Jerome (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) hit 6.36 meters for eighth, while freshman Gabriel Schoonmaker () was ninth at 6.35 meters.
Slater continued with a second-place performance in the triple jump at 13.14 meters. Freshman Ayobami Adebayo (Long Island, NY/Longwood) earned fourth in the high jump at 1.81 meters, and junior Jesse James (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond's) cleared 1.71 meters for seventh.
Senior Michael Carey (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) cleared 3.90 meters to finish fourth in the pole vault.
Oneonta next competes at the SUNYAC Outdoor Championships from May 2-3 at Cortland.
