ONEONTA, N.Y. - Senior Cassidy Moore (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) netted four goals, but the Oneonta women's lacrosse team fell 17-6 to Cortland on Wednesday afternoon. Oneonta falls to 3-7 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC, while Cortland moves to 5-4 and 3-0 in the conference.
Cortland used a ten-goal first quarter, limiting Oneonta to goals from senior Ellie Downey (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) and Moore to take a 10-2 lead.
Moore scored the opening goal of the second quarter to cut the lead to seven, but Cortland scored three straight, with two coming from Toni Cashman, to take a 13-3 lead heading into halftime.
The teams tied 2-2 in goals in the third. Moore scored again at 11:22, and senior Elizabeth Doherty (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) found the back of the net at 1:59 to make it 15-5.
Moore added her fourth goal in the fourth quarter at 6:57, but Cortland scored a final second goal from Gemma Guy to secure the 17-6 victory.
Moore had four goals, one assist, six draw controls, and one ground ball. Doherty added a goal, one caused turnover, and one ground ball. Senior McKenzie Busch (Babylon, NY/Babylon Jr./Sr.) had four ground balls and a caused turnover.
Cortland's Nicole Iapoce and Brooke Elizalde finished with four goals and an assist each. Cashman had three goals and two assists with three caused turnovers. Ashley Melilo had two goals, two assists, and four ground balls.
Freshman Margot Haring (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks) had five saves in goal, while senior Julia Hawkin made seven stops.
Trinity Parks recorded six saves for Cortland.
Oneonta next hosts Oswego in SUNYAC action on Sat. Apr. 5 at 1 p.m.
